Wow it’s 2010 already! Time sure flies when you’re busy, and having fun of course. I’m also very excited as I am officially getting married this year! For once Justin and I will be on the other side of the camera as we say our “I Do’s”!
Business-wise we are busier than ever as our awesome clients are telling their friends about us. During 2009 we saw a huge increase in our client base, and we opened our brand new studio located here in Etobicoke on Islington Avenue. The studio is now open by appointment only for consultations, and if you are planning a 2010 or 2011 wedding we’d love to have you by for a drink to chat about your wedding photography vision, and to see some samples. Please feel free to give me a call at 416.662.7495 to setup a consultation.
If you are getting married in 2010 we still have a few dates available so please feel free to get in touch. We’ve also begun booking for 2011 weddings so if you’re a 2011 bride it’s not too soon to chat
Now, on to Danielle and John, my latest newly-wed clients. This lovely couple decided to ring in 2010 by saying “I Do” and having a fab party with their family and friends. Everyone was totally into the celebration, making for one of the coolest photo-ops I’ve ever had the opportunity to shoot! We setup on the dance floor to capture the countdown and everything just exploded at midnight! Beyond cool to shoot. Especially when Lisa from Hello DJ! played 1999 by Prince. My fave song of the night for sure.
The day began with the bride and groom getting ready at the Holiday Inn in Oakville. It was super convenient because the wedding ceremony and reception was taking place literally next door at the Oakville Conference & Banquet Centre. The ceremony was beautiful and the room was then transformed for the reception. Decorated in royal blue, the bridal party looked very chic and the whole affair had a flare of excitement due to the imminent arrival of 2010.
Check out the photos below of their gorgeous day:

I love this photo of Danielle’s beautiful dress – so dramatic!

In this shot the groomsmen were doing the can-can to get Danielle and John to kiss! There were many other fun dares performed as part of their kissing game as well.

And here’s the always lovely Lisa Ng from Hello DJ! with her husband Paul – they totally rocked this New Years Eve wedding and kept the dance floor going all-night (as usual)!

I love happy clients!
The other day I received a lovely email from a couple whose wedding I shot this past September, and it was so sweet that I asked permission to share their kind words on the blog. Here’s the note I received from Martha & Kirk the other day:

“Hi Lisa,
I just wanted to let you know that we love our photos (if I didn’t mention it already!). We were able to make a gorgeous (and huge) photo album with the proofs you gave us, and we have some excellent framed Christmas gifts thanks to the prints that were included in our package!
It was truly a pleasure working with you and Justin. You were very professional, and I felt instantly that I could trust you to do a great job. Your directions and creative ideas for the photos were wonderful. At the same time, you were laid back enough to joke around with, and willing to listen to our own ideas. Your work, from the original contract signing to the final delivery of the photos, was absolutely fantastic. Thank you!
Thanks again!
Martha & Kirk”

This wedding is way overdue for posting, but due to my hectic shooting and post-production schedule this year, the blog’s gotten a bit behind. But have no fear – I shall be updating regularly over December and January with tons of sessions that happened this Summer and Fall. Lots of pretty pictures to come, I promise
In the meantime, let’s get to Emily & Todd’s wedding which took place on July 4th, 2009. This couple chose some of the most beautiful spots in Oakville to celebrate their wedding. Emily & Todd (who are some of the nicest people in the world, by the way) began their day by getting ready at Haslemere House, a gorgeous bed and breakfast in Oakville, ON. The owner was so accommodating to our photographic needs, and was very kind. There were a million great places to shoot in the house and outside of it. If you are looking for a nice weekend getaway, or a fantastic place for getting ready photos, please check out Haslemere House – you won’t be disappointed!
After bride and groom got ready together (they were doing photos before the ceremony, so less formality was involved), we all headed over to pier by Erchless Estates in Oakville. Erchless is located on Navy Street and the pier features a beautiful lookout over the lake and a lighthouse. I’ve shot here many times and it’s always a great location for photos.
From the pier we moved on to the Oakville Golf Club where the ceremony & reception were planned. The weather was amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for a bluer sky. Shortly after arrival at the club, Emily & Todd had an outdoor wedding ceremony (very similar to the one Justin and I are planning for ourselves next year!) The happy bride and groom welcomed their guests into the dining room at the Oakville Golf Club, and everyone sat down to a lovely dinner while speeches took place. From the flowers to the gift tags, name cards & cupcakes, every detail was perfect. And check out the black and white reception image below – Todd’s speaking and Emily is about to cry! So cute.
Thank you to Emily and Todd and their friends and family for making this a lovely wedding to photograph.

On October 19th, 2009 I took a brief brake from my wedding & portrait editing to check-out Sloan playing the Dakota Tavern in Toronto. The gig was a special show in support of War Child, and it was great! Even the guys from Barenaked Ladies came by for the show. The venue was very intimate so moving around was difficult (try approx. 50 people) and although the lighting was challenging (3200 iso!) I had a great time creating these images. I love a challenge. Hope you enjoy these shots – thanks goes to Sloan and their management for making it possible for me shoot this fantastic gig. Coming soon – promo shots of Sloan I did a couple months back (sorry for the delay on blog posts lately – I plan to catch-up this winter). Please click below to see all the shots from this show.

As a local Toronto business owner, I love when I have the opportunity to give a little something back to the community that has been so great to me. So when my dear friend, colleague and event planner extraordinaire Alison from A Hot Pink Petticoat told me she was putting together a wedding-themed donation for the Sheena’s Place Fireball silent auction, I was very excited to help out! As a woman, and just even as a person, I feel this cause is extremely important and wanted to help in my own little way to bring some attention to it. However, if you’re unfamiliar with Sheena’s Place, here’s a great description right from their website of why the Fireball event exists:
Fireball’s goal is to raise much needed funds for Sheena’s Place; a non-profit organization providing support for people affected by eating disorders. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Over 15% of people with anorexia will die from complications related to their disorder. With only 20 publicly funded beds and limited private inpatient beds, wait times can range from 6 months to over a year.
Alison came up with the idea to round up several local Toronto wedding vendors and put together an auction item made up of gift certificates and freebies which can be used toward saving LOTS of money on the high bidder’s upcoming wedding. We’ve happily donated a $500 gift certificate which can be used toward any wedding photography package by Lisa Mark Photography.
The Annual Sheena’s Place Fireball takes place this year on Saturday November 7th, 2009 at the Capitol Event Theatre. Fireball brings together over 500 of the city’s movers and shakers to the Capitol Event Theatre for a steamy night on the town. Guests are invited to sip on cocktails from the martini bar, indulge in oysters on the half shell, enjoy delicacies at the food stations, bid on sizzling silent auction items and test lady luck at the raffle. The dance floor moves and grooves all night long and is awash with red-clad guests keeping rhythm with the DJ. Guaranteed to be the hottest ticket in town!
For more information on how to attend this AMAZING party, check out the Sheena’s Place Fireball event website: http://www.sheenasplace.org/fireball/
Or if someone you know could benefit by knowing these fantastic people, you can learn more about Sheena’s Place and eating disorders on their website: http://www.sheenasplace.org/

I know…it’s been forever. I’m sorry. I miss you.
I haven’t been blogging as much this month because I’ve been shooting a lot lately. It is busy wedding season and not to mention the time of year when we love to do family portraits and engagements because of the beautiful Fall colours. But enough of the excuses and onto a new blog post!
I want to share with you Christina and Kelvin’s engagement session – these lovely people are getting married in October 2010 in Toronto. As Christina and Kelvin live right downtown, we thought it would be best to begin on the roof of their apartment building, and then move down Queen Street and look around for places to shoot. This was an early morning session (9 AM) and the quality of light was gorgeous – bright, but soft and warm. We stopped by various shops and backdrops, one of which was The Black Bull Pub – a little early for a drink but I loved the hanging sign.
Once we made our way to Queen and University, we noticed a charity marathon taking place, so I took advantage of the road closure and grabbed a shot of Christina and Kelvin right in the middle of University Avenue – not exactly a shot you can get on a regular day!
Thanks to Christina and Kelvin for being so much fun – I am looking forward to your wedding next year!

I am very excited to announce to you the official launch of Luxe Boudoir Photography by Lisa Mark!
As many of you know, Boudoir photography has become very popular among my clients, and I really enjoy creating these types of images. As a result of the growing popularity of Boudoir, I have started my own brand of Boudoir Photography which I call Luxe Boudoir. This new brand also has it’s own website, will offer clients private 1.5 hour sessions, offers hair and make-up services and premium album options.
For exclusive new work and a brand new website, please visit http://www.luxeboudoirphotography.com and click on “Luxe Boudoir” to view the new website.
A big BIG thank you goes out to all my clients, past, present and future who have made this launch possible – especially those beautiful women who grace the pages of the Luxe Boudoir website. You are all fabulous. Here’s a screengrab of the new website:

Weddings are wonderful, sacred ceremonies, and although it’s great fun to invite everyone you know (and throw a heck of a party), there’s something to be said for having a small, intimate wedding instead. I personally love shooting small weddings because I find them to be more laid back, less stressful and well organized.
A small, beautiful backyard wedding was exactly what Kathy & Ken had in mind. Kathy is also 7 months pregnant, and that new-mommy-to-be glow just enhanced her beauty as a bride. And Ken looked handsome too!
The happy couple signed the Ketubah with the Rabbi (which is Jewish tradition), and then held their ceremony under the Chuppah, with close friends and family looking on and taking part. I think there were about 25 guests there total, which was perfect!
Here are a few of my favourite moments from Kathy & Ken’s big day:

How cute are these little ones? They’re brother and sister, and I couldn’t resist snapping a few shots of them.

Typically after a Jewish wedding ceremony, the guests dance The Hora – a dance where the bride and groom are lifted up on chairs. Since Kathy’s pregnant, that’s obviously not such a great idea, so guests coined the phrase “dancing the pregnant Hora” in this case because the chairs remained stationary and everyone danced circles around them instead!
