Spring Maternity Photos in High Park | Chantal & Nathan

Chantal and Nathan are such a beautiful couple – which is why when Chantal told me they are expecting their first child, I was so happy for them!  This baby will be so cute!

As many residents of Toronto know, High Park is abundant with cherry blossom trees, which only bloom for a about a week and a half in late April/early May.  I was itching to do some portraits showing off these gorgeous blooms, and had scheduled Chantal and Nathan for the end of April (I felt the trees, which only bloom during Spring, would be a beautiful visual metaphor for a new baby.  Okay I promise not to get any more philosophical on you.)

However as April progressed, Mother Nature had different plans and the trees bloomed about 2 weeks EARLY!  No worries – we moved the shoot up and caught the blossoms in all their glory.  Here are the results:

One final note here – I didn’t know until this shoot, but Chantal and Nathan are big gamers and they couldn’t resist bringing along a few fun props to play with.  I highly recommend this as it really personalizes your photos!  Here is one of my favourite images – Chantal resting a Nintendo DS on her tummy!  And below you’ll see them holding little Mario Kart figurines of Mario and Princess Peach – these were their wedding cake toppers at their destination wedding!  So unique – I love it.

Tran - Beautiful pictures Lisa! I can see happiness radiating from Chantel and Nathan’s in your photos. The background is gorgeous! It seems like they’re the only 2 people in High Park (and the park was always packed during the cherry blossoms season).

Richard - Beautiful pictures, how did you light these? Do you carry a strobe with you? or flash?

admin - Hi Richard,

Thanks for your comment! I used a flash (a Nikon SB-900) triggered wirelessly with Pocket Wizards, and I had my assistant hold the flash behind a large translucent reflector, creating a make-shift softbox. The flash was at full power as it was a bright day! Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Lisa
